Jaq Grantford
Jacqui is well-known to many through her picture books. Years ago, she bowled us over with two favourites, Shoes News and Various Faerious, both illustrated with her unique skilful mix of humour, surrealism and quirky portraiture. It was Jacqui who came up with the concept of The Hush Treasure Book and involved us in this wonderful project, along with a swag of fabulous writers and illustrators.
But we wonder how many in the children’s book world know Jaq the fine artist, celebrated nationally and internationally, the multi-award-winning portrait artist with works held in public and private collections. Her portraits are extraordinary. In her own words, ‘the real challenge as a portrait artist…is to paint or sculpt something that tells a story about that subject and conveys to people something of its essence…’
Jaq’s self-portraits on the left are from a series she did called, ‘All the Women I’ll Never Know’.

We invite you to take a look at some of Jaq’s work here.

In My Blood It Runs
This film is a must see. Told from the inside ‒ the voice of 10-year Dujuan, an Arrente/Garrwa boy.
Dujuan’s articulate inner dialogue, running in tandem with the filming, is remarkably moving. A privilege to watch this slice of contemporary life.
This heart-warming observational documentary about history, learning, love and resistance premiered on Sunday, July 5, 9.30pm on ABC and ABC iview, 2020.
