Bees are buzzing in our latest letterbox scene created by Ann James (with her apologies to EH Shephard!). October will be a hive of activity in the Children's Book world with the announcement of our national Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards on Friday October16. Also the announcement of the Albert Ullin Award - a new award to honour the work of an Australian illustrator or author. We'll email a special News later this month about these. There's other exciting news coming later in the month also including the release of the130-StoreyTreehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton and Took the Children Away, a beautiful new picture book by Archie Roach.
The buzz of the month begins with Love Your Book Shop Day on Saturday October 3.  More than ever this year it's a chance to support and let your local bookshop know what a great job they've been doing bringing us wonderful books all through this difficult year -  so important to the quality of our lives.

The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) will host a Facebook Live event this year starting at 11am AEST. The KidLit Club will run this event and feature storytime for families plus ‘catch-ups’ with booksellers and authors across the country. join here

Books Illustrated is proud to be part of the Australian Booksellers Associaton that supports and drives this success. We offer a special treat for Love Your Bookshop Day - the amazing boxed set of book and jigsaw Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan - at $25 instead of $35!  A fab treat for Melbournian's in particular, lucky enough to still have some lockdown time to use fruitfully.

Also, just in, are signed copies of a new release, full size picture book version of Eric, Shaun Tan's well known quirky and insightful short story from Tales of Outer Suburbia ($19.99).
An exhibition of Shaun Tan's illustration is currently showing in Yokahama, Japan, and the gallery has produced special edition of the minitature gift version of Eric - check it out here
