DOG TAILS Exhibition
to June 23 2021

The Mura Gadi Gallery, the Library, Building 8, University of Canberra
 Dog Tales, an exhibition of 35 original artworks by much-loved children’s
book creators Alison Lester, Bob Graham, Ann James, Andrew McLean and others. 
Artwork, sketches, initial ideas and information about the creators feature.

University of Canberra students created the exhibition in association
with the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature.

Shown in Australia for the very first time and exclusive to Melbourne.
Last month the world lost three important and greatly loved picture book creators.

• Arone Raymond Meeks.
An extraordinary and creative Indigenous man, Meeks was a fine artist, children's book author and illustrator, performer and political and social activist. 
The award-winning Enora and the Black Crane and Pheasant and Kingfisher were perhaps his most well-known childrens' picture books. Tribute in Out in Perth 

• Louise Ehlert, whose best-known book was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, made distinctive collage artwork for readers ranging in age from infancy to 10. Her book Hands is one of our personal all time favourites! Obituary in the NY Times 

• Eric Carle creator of over 70 picture books including The Very Hungry Caterpillar. UK Childrens' Book expert Julia Eccleshire wrote an Obituary for The Guardian Newspaper .

Several years ago, we were lucky enough to visit The Eric Carle Mueum and Eric's studio in Amhurst USA. We have some memories and photos of this special visit on our website in the Inspiration section.
Australia's first book shop dedicated to children's books, established by Albert Ullin,
has recently moved to 220 St Georges Road, North Fitzroy Village!
