Rules of Summer
At this time of year we are particularly aware of rules of summer relating the sun's UV rays, fires, sharks and additionally, this new year, the COVID 19 restrictions!
Even more possibilities are suggested in Shaun Tan's brilliant picture book,
Rules of Summer!

This large-format picture book is about the relationship between two young brothers over one summer holiday when their friendship is tested by a many challenging situations, the older sibling dicatating the rules to the younger....
It’s a story without any particular narrative, just a list of mysterious rules and intriguing illustrations trigger the reader to build stories around...
 • Never step on a snail  Never leave the back door open overnight •
• Never argue with an umpire • Never leave a red sock on the clothesline •
As rules are broken, not always by accident, surprising consequences ensue
and readers are invited to decide for themselves what is happening, and why.
